Hey guys! So a few posts ago I reviewed Jillian Michaels new book Slim for Life. One of my favorite parts of the book was her advice on setting goals for your health. I know this is a pretty basic idea, but there’s something about reading her advice on the topic that made it feel like new information. Plus there’s nothing like sitting down and mapping out your goals to get you motivated and help you feel in control.
First set your long-term goal: For me its to lose 65lbs in 8 months
Now your long-term goal can seem pretty lofty, even now typing it out my own gave me heart palpitations and several slivers of doubt. BUT the key to reaching that long-term goal is to make smaller more manageable goals. These will help build the habits and behaviors that will get you to that ultimate goal. That said, behold my pyramid of goaliness!
Ultimate Goal: Lose 65lbs in 8 months
Monthly Goal: Drop 8lbs each month (seems doable)
Weekly Goals: Each week I will lose 2lbs. I will use JM Body Revolution 6 days a week and burn 300-400 calories per workout.
Daily Goals: I will stay within my daily calorie allowance. I will not eat my calorie deficit. I will not snack after dinner. (After dinner snacking is my biggest pitfall…gonna nip that in the bud!)
So there you have it…not a literal pyramid shape but a goal pyramid non-the-less. Do you guys set goals? Does writing them down make you more likely to work to achieve them?
Been a while…but had to tell you in my last weigh in I lost 5lbs!!!!!!!!
ps. thanks for kicking my butt regularly
I recently finished reading Jillian Michaels newest book Slim for Life and thought I’d share a few of my thoughts on the subject. This is the second book of hers I have read so I am in no way an expert on her or her writing, but I have to say I have enjoyed both of her books (I’ve also read Mastering your Metabolism). There was some information overlap between the two, but to be honest I didn’t mind mostly because I thought of it as a refresher.
Think of this book as a giant Cosmo quiz. It’s a bunch of tips with point values 1-3, you pick the tips you want to incorporate into your life, add up your score and at the end you find out what your points mean in terms of achieving and maintaining your slim. If you fall in the low range you might need to go back and add in a couple more and if you are a high flyer you can have your ego stroked. I myself fell in the mid-range meaning I am “sensible and grounded with what I can fit in and maintain permanently”. Not too shabby.
All in all I would recommend giving Slim for Life a try. Whether you are like me trying to lose a large amount of weight or have 10-15 pounds you want to shed this book has some good ideas. I thought I would list a couple of my favorite tips to give you an idea of what’s in the book:
Land Sea or Tree: “If it didn’t come from the ground or he ocean or have a mother–don’t eat it.” Amen.
Fill up Your Tank: Basically eat before you go to a party, then there’s less risk of overeating once you’re there. Great idea! I’m definatly going to use this one.
Picture it: Make a photo food diary! I love this idea! Once I’ve done a month or two more of my regular food diary I might try this out, sounds fun! Plus it might encourage me to make pretty meals.
There you have it! Now go out and buy the book and get tallying!
Hey guys! Just trying out this video thing, thought I’d check in to see how your week is starting out!
I have my doubts about this blog thing but here I am doing it. I used to blog a LOT and then my life got busy and things fell by the wayside….blog wise that is. So here I am trying this thing out again. Here’s the quick catch up for what brought me to this medium. Three weeks ago I started Jillian Michaels Body Revolution! Yipeee! In preparation of purchase/starting the program I did some online “research”. Which is code for watching lots of YouTube videos, reading other blogs and watching more videos. There are a lot of fantastic and inspiring health and fitness blogs out there! I had no idea. Way to go people! This led me to think that maybe I could write a blog post or two about my journey in hopes of inspiring someone in the same way all those others did for me. So here I go! Off on a blogging adventure! Stay tuned to read about how the program is going, what I’m cooking up, maybe a book review or two and anything else I can think of.
