So I’ve been going back and forth on joining Weight Watchers for a couple weeks now. I’ve been doing Jillian Michaels Body Revolution for 11 weeks (can’t believe I only have 1 WEEK LEFT!) and have also been using her online program. The online program is great, several of her recipes have made it into my regular recipe rotation and if I wasn’t already using Body Revolution I know I would love using her preplanned workouts. Who doesn’t love going to the gym with a game plan? BUT since my mom visited last weekend I have started to get a little bored with the repetition and kind of lost a little of my drive so thought it might be the right time to try something new.
I’ve gone back and forth between using WW Online and WW Meetings. My inner lazy person only wanted to use the online program, but if I did that I wouldn’t be making much of a change from what I’m doing now. Meetings on the other hand would make me more accountable for my weekly choices, and it doesn’t hurt that I have to be officially weighed-in each week. So after going back and forth all day Thursday I decided to head over to a nearby meeting to check it out before I made a commitment.
I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone was, and there was a pretty good group of people there (men and women of all ages). The leader, Nancy went over the previous weeks materials and asked how everyone did during the week. Some people piped up and others sat quietly. Then she went over the goal for this week (which was to eat a good breakfast daily), more discussion and opened it up for questions/comments. All in all it was painless and very positive. Not at all the AA type of meeting I was imagining. I stayed for the PowerStart meeting afterwards, signed up for a monthly pass and did my first official weigh-in. Yep, jumped right on the bandwagon!
I’m a couple days into tracking and I have to say it’s kind of weird going from counting calories to counting points. I’m pretty good at knowing how many calories are in something, but have no idea how to translate that into points. At least for now that makes my decision making a little slower. but hopefully that’s something I will learn as I go along just like I did with the calorie counting. For now I’m still logging what I eat on JM online and WW online, mostly because I am curious to know how the two compare. I’ll be sure to let you know if I notice any differences.
So that’s what’s going on here! I’m excited to see how this pans out for me over the next month. At this point this is just an experiment, I’m not sure if it will be a one month, three month or full year commitment. But I figured it was worth giving a try for a month to see how I like the WW program. The one thing I do know is that with or without WW I can lose weight (I hit the 20lbs lost mark today!!!!!) BUT if would be great if the program was able to amp up my motivation and give me a community of people nearby to lean on when I need a pick-me-up. Will check back in on Thursday with my weigh-in results!
