So I am not a serious coffee drinker, but I DO LOVE a good cafe mocha….coffee…..chocolate….what’s not to love. I’ve tried making them at home and they NEVER turn out as good the barista made kind. I thought it might have something to do with the ambiance of a coffee shop, the tantalizing aroma of freshly roasted beans, the possibility of a nibble to go along with your coffee and if you’re lucky a comfy chair. So I did a little research via Pinterest to see how people are making them at home and it turns out there are quite a few methods being used. Some of them used the same ideas I had been trying, coffee + hot chocolate packet + milk, flavored creamers (of which I’m not a fan) + coffee + plus some kind of chocolate syrup, ect, ect. Then I found one recipe that looked surprisingly simple, I had all the ingredients so I gave it a try. Thank you Amanda of the food blog Serenity Now!!!! My mocha came out delicious! And only 120 calories! Not too shabby! I’ve listed the ingredients below, and for step by step instructions go here.
- 1 Tbs Hershey’s Naturally Unsweetened Cocoa Powder (the baking kind)
- 1 Tbs sugar (I used brown sugar)
- Dash of salt
- Espresso (YES use real espresso! I went with illy Moka made in my 3 cup Bialetti, easy peezy)
- 1/2 to 3/4 cup milk (I went with 1%, knock it down to skim if you want to save a few calories!)
I may never buy a mocha again! Can’t thank Amanda enough!
